Shadows of Shrek

Lately in Erie, I seem to have been stalked by Shrek.  I espy his shadow, and pull out my camera, but by the time I turn around, he is gone.  he is very careful about being seen by people.  I will give you a few examples below here.  To date, I have seen his shadow from behind me but  always when I am in my car.  How strange! Maybe it is not me who is being stalked, but instead it may be the car.  I may have to invest in one of those cameras like in police cars where not only do they take video facing forward, but also taking video from behind.  Anyway, I promised a few photos of what I have captured.

Photo Phun Challenge "Night Views"

Alas, I had been away from this for quite a few weeks now, but I still follow the other bloggers.  These are not from this last two weeks I hate to admit, but are from stored files.  So, if nothing else much is placed, we will at least have an entry or two.

The above photo as well as next few are of Christmas lights at peoples homes around Erie PA.

Here are a few trees pretty well lit up.

And here, the whole front yard, all trees are lit.

 Just another view.

What looks like radiation on old film type camera is actually just an attempt to capture snowflakes at night.

Here, we have a vehicle snowed in.  The curse of working night shift back in the woods.  Snow plow never made it to clear path before midnight.  Had to camp out at work until we got plowed out in the morning before day shift came into work.

This was the place where I had worked. The drive way is 2/10ths of a mile back into the woods.

Again, out of season, but is still a sample of some nighttime scare.

Family parish all set up for Christmas Masses.

This one above, I have to admit was not actually a night shot, but was of an extremely foggy day, and this was about 11 AM.

Now this one above has a story. It is not trick photography.  It is actually as I took it. I admit, I did lighten the photo, but it was taken without a flash, just by the ambient light available.  It was really spooky!  The arms would lift the head above the body and then bring it back down.  What it actually is, it is a prop for a haunted house.  When you see the photo taken with a flash, it is so easily seen as a fake, but with the right lighting, it is scary.

Alas, this last photo was just taken with the camera on my phone, and it failed miserably at catching the moonbow around the moon that night. It was a double rainbow around the moon, but the rings were too faint to pick up on that cam.

Free For All

This last weeks challenge had been a Free For All, meaning anything.  I had not been out to do much of late as I mention in my last Blog.  Although, I have to say that we have really experienced the seasons these last two weeks.  We have had snow, rain, fog, lightning and thunder, and even thru all of this, we also still have Spring springing up with flowers.  One day we hit like 64 degrees out, and all snow melts, then next day, we drop over 40 degrees and enjoy fog and rain and then snow, ground gets covered, and it turns to slush.  Next night, Thunder and Lightning storm hits.  Temps go up, but we share almost gale force winds with the higher temperatures.  We go back to snow and ground cover.  What a roller coaster!  And yet, spring flowers still are trying their best to break thru the soil.  Most of my photos for this entry were taken in just the last two weeks, but I may sneak a few older ones in as well.   Enjoy the views.

Odd Foods

I know, I am sorry. I am two weeks late in posting. I have not been out as much as I normally am the last two weeks.  So I tried to make up some time this week.  This post is about Odd Foods. I went to a grocery store and just walked the aisles to Look at different things that have caught my eye,  I knew I had in mind one item and is why I chose this category.  At one time, in the store I visited, I saw they had alligator meat.  That was my catch item. Alas, the truck that comes up from Florida did not have it on this week. So, I had to settle for some other things,  I know in the fish category, on menu's especially, You can find fish like Mahi-Mahi.  They even had it there, but, for me, just was not odd enough to qualify.  Here are a few of the items I found, a few are common, but just am not used to seeing ginger as a root..

One For The "Birds" PhotoPhun

This one was a difficult challenge this week for me.  The weather in Erie, although above freezing, was just plain ole windy and rainy.  Not much good for going out to find local birds.  Alas, I have to retreat to going back into my stored files of photos taken over the years.  Alas, after having done that, it would have just plain been easier to take a day and go out and shoot them.

I do have to admit though, this did bring back memories of some of the day trips that I have taken in the past.  Places Like Pymatunning Reseivoir, Down to the lake front, as well as just finding some raptors in the neighborhood.  It is amazing that Red tail hawks stay around all year.  their belly feathers change from the browns of summer to white for fall and winter.  These are the larger birds you see in the trees with the white undersides all Fall thru Springtime.
